The Surfer King released theatrically on April 7, 2006 at several theaters.  It premiered on April 5, 2006 with a special screening at The Buell Theater followed by a party to benefit three worthy charities.  One is Lalmba, an organization feeding, clothing, housing and educating 2,000 AIDS orphans on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya.  Next is the Hyland Hills Foundation, which provides low income recreational opportunities and scholarships.  Finally, Hospice of St John is an organization helping terminally ill patients and their families cope with their situation and to die comfortably without pain.  Photos from the premiere can be seen here.

The Surfer King is being represented by MarVista Entertainment in foreign markets, where it is titled "Summer Dreams".  Domestic DVD distribution is being handled by IMAGE Entertainment, and they are releasing the DVD August 21, 2007
